Morning All,

I'm rather new here, and wanted some help/advice...

I have a Nikon D50 (nothing special i know!), along with an SB900 and an old SB24. We have recently had a little one, and am enjoying taking pics of her! :D

I wanted to create like a small studio type setup.......with the addition of a few accessories....i.e. umbrellas/softboxes, backdrops etc etc......

What would you recommend and what sort of price would i be looking at for the bits?

Some of the remote triggers from the above link^. I can vouch for the RF602's, never had a misfire on mine! Excellent pieces of kit. I'd say 2 stands, 2 umbrella bracket things (to attach the flash so you can tilt it) an umbrella and some multi-coloured gels also would be nice.

If you do get some RF602's (which I have and are very good), make sure you turn off the standy function on the SB900 as the RF602 can't wake it from standby which is a pain when your messing around composing shots, etc. and then have to go back and press the back of the flash to wake it up. :)

Not a big concern, but with a nipper it could mean the difference between 'catching the moment' and missing it cos the flash is on standby. :)

Hows aboout 2 stands, 2 umbrellas, 2 brackets......

Should i go for umbrellas or softboxes?

Also, will the SB-24 be ok to use as a slave flash? Will i need 2 remote triggers - 1 for each flash?

Sorry for all the NOOB questions!! :(

Thanks for your input paul.....

p.s. Am i right in assuming if i get the remote triggers, then i wont need the TTL cords?

One receiver for each flash, yeah :) Light from an umbrella will be less directional, more spread out and softer, whilst the the softbox will still be soft, but far more directional and will produce a slightly more "contrasty" look.. Not sure how to describe.. But the umbrella would be much more convenient to put up and take down, that's for sure.

Morning All,

I have a Nikon D50 (nothing special i know!)

The D50 is actually a fantastic little camera for use with off-camera flash, as it can sync at up to 1/1000 of a second with some triggers and up to 1/4000 with a neutered ttl sync cable

FITP, what exactly would you recommend i should go for? Will i really need 2 x umbrellas? I'm hoping to have the SB24 and SB900 at either side of the object.....hoping for some decent lighting....will that work?

What will i need? - You're the pro! ;)
