Yes
Quick bit of help needed, is there a way to trigger my SB900 from my D80 without having to set off the on camera flash??

Thanks

If you dont want to use the pop-up flash then the only ways are to either use a TTL lead or some kind of wireless triggers.

Can I ask why you dont want to use CLS and use the internal flash on the D80, you can set it so that the flash from the D80 doesn't contribute to the exposure by setting it to '--'

Or get a Nikon SG-3IR this goes in front of your pop up flash, and shields the flash from it :)

I believe there is although I am not familiar with the D80 I reckon it should still do this...

I am thinking the menu system will be the same and therefore, even though the camera is a D300 and the flash is an SB800 the principle is, I believe, the same and THIS short video may assist... :D

Please let me know if I am talking rubbish and this is NOT the case with the D80 and I will take this down and have a hissy fit... :suspect:

HTH... ;)

:p

I asked the same question. If you set the onboard flash in commander mode the flashes coming from the flash are part of the command sequence and do not add appreciable light to the photo. They will not affect the lighting unless you are doing something where you really do not want any forward lighting at all such as a back lit silhouette or something like that. If that is the case then one of the covers that go over the popup flash and block visible light is the answer.
