Hi all,

I currently have an SB600 flash and want to invest in a multi-flash system. The Nikon CLS (Creative Lighting System) is very versatile and currently with my SB600 offers a nice little set-up. However, I find myself wanting a second light either off camera or one on camera with the ability to bounce the flash. The only real option is the SB800. Now, I was browsing around and found the EX150 kit for £199. This comes with everything one will need to get a basic flash system going. The only thing holding me back is that I am moving to Canada end November. As they use a different voltage system compared to the UK would these lights still work there? Any ideas guys? If they wont then I'll plump for an SB800.

Thanks.

King.

I will try to add my thoughts. I have used the nikon CLS system and Interfit's Stellar flash system which is the more expensive model. The nikon system works really well and can create some interesting effects, have used 4 flashes (1 on camera and 3 slaves) which is more than enough light and its portable too. The studio flash system I have used offers a few more options, it had 2 large lightboxs, barn doors and snoot which means you have more control over the light. However its not portable takes longer to set up and needs more space. I'm not sure about the voltage issue, but for easy transport the Nikon flashes might be the better option.

Probably,... and will probably plump for one of them in the end.

Can you not use another SB600?

Do you use a D50 King? because you'll need the SB800 as the D50 doesn't have commander function.

Its going to be two SB-600's with Sto-Fens. I decided to plump for a 17-55 f/2.8 DX too. Thanks for the tips guys.

Hi there,

I was in the same situation last year. I looked and played with a lot of the Interfit kit and the EX150 as I was in the game to buy one. However, I would seriously think twice.

The kit is very cheap, the cycle time is tediously slow and it's not the best made product on the market.

I opted for the Interfit Venus 300 system - twice the power, still fairly cheap but a good setup.

I also run a dual-SB800 system which is great for 'off the collar' moments, and the results can be pleasing.

Both have advantages, you have more control over the light with the studio setup, but then you're looking at transporting the kit, setup time, what about power etc etc

Dont think the voltage will be an issue.

The EX150 kit got good reviews, but I think you get what you pay for. I'd step up to the 300 system as LeeP suggests or look at the entry level DLite kit from Elinchrom.

Even if voltage does turn out to be an issue, you can get step-up transformers.
