Does the SB600 use battery power when off.

I use 2500Mah batteries in my SB600, and they work great when its in use, as in they last really well, but if i leave in for a couple of weeks they are dead.

Is the SB600 supposed to draw power in off mode, or are my batteries getting old and not holding charge?

I would think it your batteries not holding charge, i had the same issue with my sb600 - i just use normal batteries now (still haven't got round to ordering new rechargeable ones ) - they last for ages and don't discharge with time.

rechargeable's lose charge anyway and if you don't use them for a couple of weeks then you should top them up before use anyway.

I have exactly the same problem and my recharge-ables are new and good quality ones. It makes no difference whether I leave them in or take them out. After a week the gun wont work due to low battery. I charge some up ready, but they don't keep the charge for long. I think this is a problem with recharge-ables. The only answer I have found is to use ordinary batteries, but if I remember in advance I charge some up just before I need to use the gun.

I have a set of eneloop batteries as a fall back.

These will still have 80% of the charge up to 12 months later and are great for emergencies.

it doesnt make any sense though.

I have rechargables in my mouse, that last about a year at a time, and my Wii remotes do a month each..... im puzzled.

They have to work quite hard in the flash. not just the flash itself.

My rechargeables last just over a day in the mose if I leave it off the charger.

I have the same problem with the rechargeables. I normally make sure they are charged the night before. Just found an intelligent charger that has 10 channels and charges 10 batteries at once. I therefore get two full sets of batteries for my SB800.

I just wish Nikon would produce a lithium ion battery pack for their cameras like the pack that adds 6 batteries I would be 1st and 2nd in the line.

I too use sets of 2500mAh - wonderful they are, hundreds of flashes from the SB-800 (especially with the right ISO set), but if charged and not used they are flat as a fart within 2 weeks

Weird innit

yeah really wierd, they only die if they are destined for the SB600, they must be scared of it

probably not that then :) just naff rechargables I expect. vapextech batteries are ace though, even the normal 2900mah nimh's I use can last months.

I have 24 Ansmann Digital 2850's. Charge them all the day before I go do a mountain bike event. Serve me well in an SB-800 and 900. But wouldn't let them sit before I use them.

I have 4 Ansmann 2700's in my keyboard, and they last for months :D
