Is it worth fitting a diffuser.

I have taken some great indoor photo's with it.

Stofen made one for the SB400 don't they? Works great pointed at the ceiling, but you haven't got huge power with that gun so keep the ISO up and/or the f/number low.

If you're only shooting indoors and you've got a nice big white ceiling to bounce off, then you're probably ok. The diffusers are more useful when you get your flash off-camera and want to great a softer feel to the light (although they dont beat a brolly or a soft box - remember the bigger the light sources area = the softer the light)

It's worth considering an 80/20 attachment (I think lumiquest and a few others make them) basically it lets 80% of the light go upwards for bounce, and directs 20% at the subject for a nice catchlight. I've heard a lit of people swear by them, but don't have a lot of experience with them myself.

Looking at an SB600 or 900 myself and spotted a snapper at a wedding with this - I have a thread hereclicky seems it may have been a Gary Fong Lightsphere - not 100% sure But there is lots on utube about them - and it seems there is a seller selling them in the classified section of this forum - not Gary Fong Lightsphere branded ones *** it would seem

Maybe worth a look

I might not bother with my SB400.

However, if the SB900 turns up I will have a play.

Are these the diffusers http://www.lumiquest.com/products.htm you were talking about.

Thanks

Lumiquest Quik Bounce is the one on the link - does 80/20 bounce/fill (similar to Stofen) and also does slightly softened fill without a ceiling (as it's bigger than the bare flash or Stofen). It also works in vertical orientation too.

Most versatile on-flash attachment you can get IMHO, and more efficient as it doesn't waste light behind like light the Fong does.

will check out the fongs
