Yes
In the market for one of the above.

Do the 900's still suffer from this cut off issue?

Is it as big a problem as people say.

I've never had an issue with the thermal cut off - but I'm not a heavy flash user so I may not be the best person to comment.

The 900 outshines the 800 for usability every time. I'd say go for it

The thermal cutout is suppoised to be eased by using normal batteries rather than Rechargeables.

I seem to remember the firmware upgrade fixed a lot of that "problem" (not a problem for me, maybe being outside it never over heats?)

Anyway, on the subject of 800 vs 900:

1) 800 is smaller (maybe a good thing)
2) 900 is bigger (maybe a good thing)
3) 900 zooms further and has more power, plus light shaping options.
4) 900 doesn't need the "5th battery" add on pack to cycle faster
5) Menus are easier on the 900
6) 800 doesn't have that bloody menu wheel that leaves a mark on your forehead.
7) You can't buy a 800 new and 2nd hand they seem to be very pricey still.

Thanks Guys:)

no experience with the 800 but the 900 is possibly the best flashgun I've ever used. Personally I don't find it as intuitive or easy to use as the Canon versions but performance is first class.

Its all those krazy angles I like to shoot at probably :D
