I'm a complete newbie to flash, I've tried having a read-up and like to think I've grasped the basics. I've taken some decent portrait shots but I cannot for the life of me get macro photography to work for me.
I've done the Pringles tube DIY as a diffuser, I've got a bit of bog roll in the end for now as it was all I had (perhaps this is too thick/thin? :shrug
When I'm getting my macro photos no matter what setting I have the flash on, (I've tried TTL and every manual setting) I still can't get anything other than a black background.
Am I missing out on something obvious? I've tried using both a 35mm and 70-300mm lens, not that I reckon this would have an effect. I've been trying to use smaller f/stops to get a larger DOF, as the DCR-250 is fairly restrictive with wider apertures.
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated, mainly photographing bugs and flowers, thanks!
