Ok, so you save it as a tiff file, and edit after its a tiff, and save the finished edit as a tiff, and save a copy in jpeg for printing. An enlargements do best this way? Thank you so much for the feedback I find this a little stressful.
Nikon Fan said:Close - I open my RAW files, edit it and then save it as a Tiff file, when I want to print a image or post it on a website, I will reopen my Tiff file, size it to whatever I require and save it as a Jpeg for that purpose, once I have printed on put on web, I will then delete the Jpeg, and if I need that image again I will go back to my original Tiff file, otherwise you will end up with loads of different versions of the same image on your computer.

After that you can save as jpeg, or whatever you want, in your Pictures folder, if you feel the need.
With LR4, I never feel the need for Tiff saving but each to one's own.
I have LR4, but I find it difficult to get my photos uploaded to the program. So I just use photoshop elements 10 :/

Insert card into car reader, Lightroom usually auto opens to the import dialogue. If it doesn't, make sure you are in the library pane and click import on the bottom corner.
This will load all the photos from the card into Lightroom.
Once complete, choose a photo to edit and go into the develop module.
Do whatever you like to it, until you are happy.
Now time to export it ready for printing, uploading, burning to cd, whatever..
Click file, then export. This will bring up the export box, where you can choose the format, size, resolution and more.
For full res images for printing, I choose jpg, 100% quality. I've printed 30x40 prints without issue, you could go more.
You can save to tiff, but to be honest I never bother.
Click export and it will save the file to where you specified..
That's it..
You now have the original RAW file, untouched. All the edits you made are held in a separate sidecar .xmp file.
You also have the exported jpg.
Should you wish to make another edit of the same photo, you can do, in the develop module again.
Re export it under a different name.
You can do this as many times as you like.
If you think you will want to keep the raw edits, make sure you start a new virtual copy for each one, other wise the edits will overwrite the xmp file, and you will only have the last one.
The original RAW file is never touched.
