I have an action that runs in Photoshop CS2, if I want to change a part of it can I then save this newly modified action as something else...ie with another name... and still have the original one kept the same?

There's probably an easier way, but one option is to go into your actions folder (programme files/Adobe/Photoshop xxversion/presets/actions I think)
Duplicate and rename the action (you need to make sure photoshop is not started up)
Start up Photoshop and if the renamed version doesn't appear go to the little right arrow at the top of the pallette and choose 'load action' and browse to the above folder/action.

Carry out your modifications and resave it.
Thats all from memory after only one cup of coffee but I think I'm on the right track.

That sounds like a good idea, Bachs! Although at the end of carrying out modifications,,, i cant find how to save it!

What a prat I am!! I have finally found "Save actions".........duh! Thanks anyway Bachs.

This is the help file - from what I can see - you go to create action - run your new action and record
When you create a new action, the commands and tools you use are added to the action until you stop recording.

To create a new action:

1. Open a file.
2. In the Actions palette, click the New Action button New button, or choose New Action from the Actions palette menu.
3. Enter a name for the action.
4. (Photoshop) Choose a set from the pop-up menu.
5. If desired, set one or both of the following options:
* Assign a keyboard shortcut to the action. You can choose any combination of a Function key, the Ctrl key (Windows) or Command key (Mac OS), and the Shift key (for example, Ctrl+Shift+F3), with these exceptions: In Windows, you cannot use the F1 key, nor can you use F4 or F6 with the Ctrl key.
* (Photoshop) Assign a color for display in Button Mode.
6. Click Record. The Record button in the Actions palette turns red Record button (red) .

Important: When recording the Save As command, do not change the filename. If you enter a new filename, Photoshop records the filename and uses that filename each time you run the action. Before saving, if you navigate to a different folder, you can specify a different location without having to specify a filename.
7. Choose the commands, and perform the operations you want to record.
8. To stop recording, either click the Stop button, choose Stop Recording from the Actions palette menu, or press the Escape key. To resume recording in the same action, choose Start Recording from the Actions palette menu.

Thanks Fangman. I didnt actually want to RECORD a new action......just change a size of crop etc in an existing one.
I have now changed it and found the Save Action button so I can save it with a new name for the new size crop.

(It's a border creating action btw)

Did you write all that yourself, Fangman........Im impressed!

You must be joking!
