Saudi Arabia to chair UN Human Rights panel (again)

Before this thread descends into government bashing, I should point out that there are always members of this and previous governments who bring dishonour to their parties.

No government bashing from me (well not on this thread) both of our major parties from the left and right and have and do toady up to the Saudi regime. And this will not change until we reduce our requirement for imported hydrocarbons - give it another 30-40 years...

It just goes to prove that comedy is alive and kicking.

Please remind me when was the last time the UN did something important? As such it makes no difference who is running the parade.

I'd like to hope it's in the spirit of inclusiveness. You know, like when we let Italy join the 6 Nations. Every year they got thrashed by a little less and eventually they learnt how to play rugby.

Maybe we want Saudi inside the tent rather than outside.

But yeah, it's totes oil.

Saudi is key to most of the troubles in the middle east. They help fund groups like isis by buying oil via the black market. However by far the biggest issue is there 40 year campaign to convert the whole region to there extreme branch of sunni islam wahhabism. Spending more than $100 billion opening schools to teach hate, in much poorer surrounding countries. Foreign policy obvously has played a large part too but as long as we rely on Saudis oil we are f***ed.

Exactly, and I would add that at the present, instead of helping the coalition destroy ISIL in Iraq and Syria, they have killed thousands of women and children in Yemen, where they are bombing the Houthi "rebels" - and the West ignores those atrocities.
