Evening all,

Does anyone here use a SATA hard drive dock?

Such as this - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sharkoon-Do...80EG/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1336584759&sr=8-7

I have several WD Elements 1TB external hard drives, which use a USB 2.0 interface. These act as my backup drives, and often copy across GB's of data.

My plan is to remove the drives and put them into these SATA docking stations, which use a USB 3.0 interface.

What I would like to know is if they are are reliable, if there are any problems with using them etc?

I quite like the idea of having a double dock, so I could put 2x1TB drives in there and treat them as two drives, but both connected at USB 3.0 speed.

Does anyone use these?

Thanks

I've got a single dock (Novatech under a tenner!) and have had no issues at all - of course they are not as 'permanent' as a standard external drive so not suitable for in a room with small children or an active pet but otherwise really convenient.

Can I ask, does it power up OK with the PC? I guess its no different than an external HDD really, but Im just curious!

There are so many different makes out there I have no idea what to go for.
Some do RAID, some do off-line disk cloning...
where do I begin lol

Do you leave your drive inserted permanently?

Mine doesn't power on/off with the PC I have to switch it manually, no inconvenience to me but your setup may be different - my drive is in permanently.
