Salvageing corrupted files?

I have a problem and wonderd if anybody could help, I store my pictures on a Vosonic storage devise useing a CF and XD picture card but with XD some of the files became corrupted there are maybe 30 files from the XD and 8 of them are corrupt I have been told that there is a good chance i can get these priceless pictures back somehow.. I tried to download some free programs from the tinternet to read corrupted data but to no avail... Anybody had any simarlar problems or knows of a Good program or whatever to bring my pictures out of the matrix world that they seem to be in...
Would be a great help... :thinking:

Define "corrupted", wink. Can't you upload 'm from the card to your PC? Or can you, but do they open as rubbish? What?
 
I've used a program called Zero Assumption Recovery. Works really well and it's free.
 
They became corrupted as i was useing a converter in the card slot of the vosonic which converted XD into a SM card slot.. turns out the slot acctually fitted the XD after turning the card upside down it slotted straight in.. Well for my sillyness the converter obviously didnt convert very well and caused the filles to corrupt and when i try to open the files a message pops up saying cannot read file and it also states that the file is over 200GB which is only acctually 212MB and the file names are unreadable.. like cartoon swearing #""@OO###}""##^^ kind of thing.. So there just on the vosonic now not on the card or computer..
