Hi,

As per my other post, going to Kenya on safari in a couple of weeks so getting the last few bits of camera gear I need.

Got the body, (R100) the rfs 18-150 and rf 100-400, spare sd card and batteries, lens hoods, circular polarisers and bag.

I’m also looking for a lightweight tripod / monopod or beanbag. Is there a particular one that people recommend? Do you get specific photography beanbags or is it just a kids toy that people tend to use?

Thanks,
Dom

Sounds like a wonderful trip :)

As you mention safari, are you going to be driven around in the specialised safari vehicles? If so then IMO a tripod or monopod will be very restricting but bean bags will provide support as needed.

However, if you are on foot then a monopod might be more useful than a tripod?

Lastly, many safari operators especially those that are targeted at photographers will have their kit recommendations?

Safe journeying and I hope you come back with plenty of cracking images.

It’s not a dedicated photography safari, we’re going for a wedding and it’ll be the wedding party for a few days after. It will be in cars rather than on foot.

Kinesis SafariSack, or the copy Lenscoat LensSack/LensSack JR... there's probably others as well. TBH, there's not a lot to them beyond what a lighting stand weight bag offers (and those are a lot cheaper). I would avoid the big ones designed primarily for over the door, and definitely the ones that are just bases for a tripod head (or convert).

Take it empty and fill it there with rice/beans/sand/etc... something that can be just dumped out for the trip back; preferably something the birds/wildlife would like (and definitely not those plastic pellets).
