Hi

Just wondering if anyone had been to the West Midlands Safari park (or any other safari park for that matter) in the Winter - was it still value for money?

Thanks,

I have to say.. no, my mum works at Knowsley Safari Park, and if you go on a clear but cold day fair enough but anything worse and most animals kinda keep away from the roads, the Sealion show is shut in winter, as are many rides (if your taking kids)

I`m hoping to go to the west mids safari park once the weather picks up so i`d hang fire a bit if i were you.

However, if you are looking for somewhere close, why not consider Twycross zoo just up the M42. It obviously cant compete with the open theme of the safari park but you should get some decent shots. Went in December with the missus and no camera but planning on going again next week with my new 40d + 70-200L f2.8 :-)

west midlands Safari park is great value , unsure when they are open , as they close part of the year. Try and go mid week and early it's less busy . Been lots of times as it is only 45 minutues away from me . A link i found about parks and zoo's hope this help's :)

Thanks guys - its open during the weekends only in winter - only £7.50 too - we might go and have a day out - even if there are no good photo opps at least we are out in the fresh air!

I'm seriously considering a trip to Knowsley in the next week or two - a friend told me it was one of the best ones, not sure how it compares to the West Midlands ?

Wow - kipax - number 6 is a cracker of a shot.

West Midlands in the winter would be lovely!

I have been twice both in the summer and its packed nose to nose cars so your not guaranteed any decent photo opportunities anyway and the sun always seems to be on the wrong side!

I much prefer visiting any zoo in the winter, the animals are much more lively than a hot summers day!

Twycross is fantastic for primate lovers their orang utans are lovely and got some fantastic shots of the baby gorilla when I last visited in July.

Joe T did you happen to go to Whipsnade on 12 January me and my fella went then and their was sooo many photographers that we thought it may have been a meet! What a lovely day that was weather wise although you couldnt get past the big lens to get a shot of the tigers :D

We had a great day - lovely and sunny too- well worth a visit - plus you get free return tikets!!!!

Yes, 12 Jan was the day. We had a big meet of peeps on here. But there was quite a lot of other togs there too. Do a search for Whipsnade and you will see the hundreds of threads in the Animals & Nature full of pictures from the day. :)
