It has been confirmed a plane that caught fire mid flight and crashed killing the pilot near Bishop Aukland N lincs, was one of the static displays at waddington last weekend.
We did stop and look at the aircraft as it was parked net to our freinds plane that was also a static display there

Sad news

Hi Rob it was a piston Provost a bit similar to the Chipmunk

I know it - Gypsy Major inverted V engine was it?

Piston Provost powered by an Alvis Leonides radial engine was being flown by Captain John Fairey son of Sir Richard Fairey, the founder of the Fairey Aircraft Company. Crashed at Bishop Norton near Market Rasen. Very sad news about a much respected and capable pilot who was part of British aviation history.
