Heartbreaking to see events like this truly.

Yes, I heard about it on a news bulletin.

IIRC it happened very shortly after takeoff:(

There is a horrible video of it descending shortly after take off and just looks like it is almost landing so gently into the houses :-(

This years been fairly bad for crashes, up on the last few years by a fair bit.

It's eerie, and a bit shocking how it appears to be just cruising, you'd expect not much of an impact but then it completely explodes! Apparently there's one survivor? It doesn't seem possible but there are interviews with an apparent lone survivor

The fact that anyone survived is the serendipity of the way things can pan out.

Reports say they have recovered the flight data recorder, and I hope they can also recover the cockpit voice recorder to add context to what they, will hopefully, learn about the sequence of events regarding such a catastrophic loss.

It was horrible to watch, and as a former private pilot, brought back horrible memories of an incident at Thruxton in the early 90's that I witnessed just before flying myself.
There are some fairly obvious clues as to the nature of what was occurring, but the FDR and CVR should make those very clear. In these situations I can't help thinking of the pilots who had a horrible last half minute of so of life trying to prevent the inevitable.

too heavy, too slow..?

there have been reports that the flaps were not set correctly

or that a double engine bird-strike was reported to the tower

RIP to all the victims

watched a vid yesterday of an aviation guy and he said looked like a double engine failure he even said it looked like the emergency RAT (ram air turbine) deployed to make power

I read the airliners.net forum and the thread on the crash has already passed over 50 pages..... that forum is full of armchair accident investigators coming up with their theories about the cause... One thing that is obvious about the crash is the aircraft lost thrust...

Oh I am sure the voice recorder got found today so hopefully that have both downloaded there should be an interim update soon

The various personal tragedies are still sadly playing out.

IMO the Indian investigators and the forensic services seem to be going as quickly as they can to avoid any mistakes in formal identification. Though when you see the press reports and the interviews of the grieving family members I think they are being 'exploited' to 'make the news'. :(

In the first few hours on the TV the close relatives being interviewed here in the UK there was one reporter whose line of questioning was way too pushy (intrusive agenda driven?) and "leading the interviewee" to attempt to get the reply "he" wanted not what the family member was saying to him!

On a more dispassionate note, I sincerely hope that the examination of the CVR & the FDR provide a conclusive answer as to the cause.

Plus, that in a timely but thorough manner all families can bury their deceased in privacy and without press intrusion !

This last at least was reported as in the Mayday call to the tower from the cockpit i.e. the only single available 'fact'....all else is interpretation of very limited information.

When i first saw the video it just looked like the thing was gliding :-(

The 787, the air-plane involved in the crash, hasn't really lived up to the "Dreamliner" name...... throughout its' program it has suffered production problems and delivery delays... Some people even call it the "Nightmareliner!

I've watched a few pilot reviews of the incident, they all agree, and though the footage is murky at best, that no birds were seen anywhere next or near the aircraft
