Where exactly is Rumney Great Wharf. Where's the best place to park and walk to and to see wildlife? It's been driving me mad trying to find it.

According to Ordnance Survey, Rumney Great Wharf is here. I can't help with the other points as it's not a location I was previously familiar with.

Thanks Paul. Didn't know you could get OS maps on bing. Very handy to know.

The only reason I ever use Bing and the reason I use Bing maps as often as google maps. Also, if you have an Android phone, the Maverick map gives access to OS maps (with some limited offline caching)

Any advice for iPhone user? Beginning to think I should have gone android.

Think i'm going to head to the local patch (being forest farm) tomorrow, but may check out rumen wharf on Saturday.

The Wharfe is a large area. Your best bet is to go along Lamby way towards Newport until you get the last roundabout ( the one just past the wind turbine), at the roundabout turn right ( Shirenewton gypsy site will be on your right) continue along the coast road to the first farm on the right, you can park in the 'layby' either side of the gate. Go through the gate and walk towards the seawall, this brings you out at the pumping station ,if you walk back toward Cardiff you will be on the Wharfe. The once locally famed 'black pipe' has now been stolen for its scrap metal value no doubts, the short eared owls used to be between the pumping station and the county boundary, which is marked by a distinct dip in the seawall height.
