I've always used a Crumpler shoulder bag to lug my gear around but due to an injury i'm struggling to carry it so thought a rucksack might spread the load a bit better!

Ideally i need something waterproof(& beer proof)that will carry a couple of bodies with lenses attached plus 2 other lenses, spare batteries, filters, cards etc.Something that could carry a laptop would be handy but not essential!

Anybody suggest any rucksacks that will hold this lot without breaking the bank!:D

THIS was mentioned in a photo mag i bought today. £50. Weatherproof, fleece lined etc.

Cheers Evil Ras! Don't think it looks big enough to carry all my junk! Shame because the price would have been ideal!

Fair enough. looking for a decent bag myself for when i get my DSLR! But think you may have to wait for the none imsoniacs to get up for some more suggestions!

Cheers for the suggestion mate it looks like a good bag and a lot cheaper than the Jessops offerings i seen today if only it was slightly bigger!

Lol most of my posts are at odd times just got home from work so at least this way i get peace to use the internet!

Have you looked at the LowePro Mini Trekker AW or the CompuTrekker AW? They could well fit the bill.

Have you looked at the Tamrac Expedition range.

I have an 8 and it takes everything in my camera bag with room to spare.

Weighs a lot but is exceedingly comfortable to wear.

I've just invested in a CompuTrekker Plus, very comfortable, very nice but a hefty price tag associated - but keep an eye on eBay, a shop called Highland Photography (or similar) they had it for £50 less than most other places, but they have very limitted stock so offers are snapped up quickly

I was looking at the Expedition 7 (at the same time as the CompuTrekker) - I thought I'd be getting the 7 from what I could read on the internet and looking at friend's bags but I found that the tripod sat too high, the bag was narrow and because the laptop slot is away from the body, not against it, I felt I was being pulled over backwards.

I'm not a small person so for me to feel off balance it would really affect a smaller framed person horrifically

Best thing to do is get to a local shop (if you have one) and try them out to see what feels best - then hagle and get them to price match an online store

I'd second the Lowepro Mini Trekker All Weather (AW). I use it for the following:

Nikon D3 body, generally with 28-70 2.8 attached
D200 body
14-24 2.8
70-200 2.8
SB-800 flash
various filters, rocket blower, spare batteries etc

So that's 2 camera bodies (1 big) and 3 big heavy 2.8 lenses. All fits in nice and snug, but it does weigh an absolute ton and it gives me backache a bit when out on jobs.
They're pretty cheap too considering, got mine new for £60.

The Expedition Series has extra lumbar support which is fine when carrying but it but if you want to lay the bag down to load and unload it doesn't sit as well.

The Computrekker and Computrekker Plus both also have a glorified carrier bag rain cover (on top of being about 95% waterproof without) whereas Tamrac want an extra £20 for their's

I'm a big fan of the FStop range of bags, the Tilopa or the Satori would be the sort of thing you are after.

Thanks for all the replies and advice!:D

I like the look of the F Stop bags are they US only or are there any UK stockists? I like the ICU photopack that you can move between bags!

The Lowepro mini trekker or computrekker and Tamrac expedition seem to fit the bill for size so i'm off to annoy my local Jessops tomorrow morning and see which one fits me best!

I hadn't really thought about how well the various bags would fit me i was too concerned about fitting my gear in! I was originally going to buy online but after reading your replies i think trying them out would be a better plan than buying something that makes me topple over when i put it on!

The Expedition 7 comfortably takes 3 bodies with battery grips (one with 70-200 lens attached) and three extra lens, plus a laptop, a tripod and a load of odds and sods.

It's a tad heavy when loaded with all that though ;)

The Tamrac Adventure series (link) are very good. I have the 9, but I guess the 10 would be better for your needs. I can get two bodies with lenses attached in the main part of the bag, and use the upper section to carry my flash unit, cables, water etc.

I have also found that, when not taking a laptop with me, the slot is a great place to keep an additional fleece . There is no "proper" place to fit a tripod, but it's easy with regular 1 inch or 2 inch webbing to make it work.

There is always these.... they have a laptop slot at the back too, a tripod holder and an AW cover. £30 mark

I have a Crumpler Pyjama Pride which I bought to take my gear and laptop on courses, it holds two bodies with lenses with plenty of room for extra gear and a laptop. Some info here - http://www.ebags.co.uk/products/index.cfm?modelid=104276&sourceId=UKNEXT0010.

I have only used it twice, very comfy (lots of padding) and easy to get at stuff once its off your back. I might be tempted to sell it (cheap!) as I use one of those massive lowpro shoulder bags now and it's just taking up space on the wardrobe, pm me if you are interested.

FStop are US based, they have a UK number, but I've always ordered direct from them in the states anyway...

Thanks for the replies!

Flash In The Pan I tried the Tamrac expedition 7 today it felt comfortable on me but that was without all the gear in it i'm a 5'8 skinny female so heck knows how it will feel with my gear in! I am now considering taking my gear along to the shop and trying it with my gear.

Jelster i liked the look of the Tamrac adventure bags online but the shop didn't have any to try! Going to try another shop tomorrow and see what they have!

Cheers for the link Janice have you got one of these bags?

Putterill How much would you be looking for if you sell the Crumpler? I might be interested!

How long did your F stop gear take to arrive ordering from US Craikeybaby?

Tamrac cyberpack 8. End of thread ;)

I had the Mini-Trekker and upgraded to the Vertex. Both great bags and still giving great service. I am sure you will be pleased with your purchase.

HIMUPNORTH Yeah i thought i had got lucky with that one but just my luck i ordered it and Amazon say 4-7 weeks for dispatch! Trying to decide whether to wait or not!

Cheers Dod and Schrismonkey will have a look at that Tamrac and the fotosense bags while i decide what to do about the Amazon wait!

Thanks for the replies!

Mine was over in a few days (I was shocked, have had stuff taking longer from over here) but the rumours are that they are about to launch new bags so unless you're desperate to get one may be worth waiting a few weeks...

Thanks Craikeybaby did you get charged anything by customs when it arrived? I'm still tempted to get one of these now i've seen how long i'm going to wait on the lowepro from Amazon!

I think it came marked as gift ;)

Excellent thats good to know! Amazon just cancelled my Lowepro order due to a security problem with my card by the time i had sorted it out with my card company the price had jumped up by 30 quid.

Hey

Did you get a bag in the end?

Why can't someone make a good-looking, functional camera rucksack. It can't be that bloody hard!

I had a Dakine Mission Photo 09. Really thought their stuff was top quality, however after a few months of light use, and a couple of weeks boarding (it's a snowboard-specific bag), the velcro inside is screwed. Found my camera breaking through the foam partition on a couple of occasions - not good.

I'm getting a refund, but absolutely no idea what I am going to get instead.

Fstop looks like the best bet in terms of look and functionality, but there prices are stupidly steep, they've been out of stock for ages, and they can't even be bothered to answer emails. So it kind of seems as though they don't want any custom, at least not from the UK.

I like that the compartment on the Dakine opens from the back - there aren't too many made like that. Feels more secure than one where anyone could open it and pull out your gear in a second.

Also like that the laptop compartment is on the front - so you don't have a rigid flat surface at your back - I cycle a lot so makes more sense for the back to be soft, or structured.

Anyone know where to get Fstop in the UK?

This is sooo frustrating!!! :bang: :bang: :bang:

Craikeybaby -

Which of the FStop bags do you have? I've been looking at them and really like the way they look. I'm concerned that they may be too big. How 'long' is the backpack?

Can you post some pics of the one you have with gear included?

Thanks in advance!
