Yes
Just had me replacement softbox cover through the letter box, and the envelope clearly has a sticker on it saying 'Royal Mail Recorded 1st or 2nd class' - now, surely that means it was sent recorded delivery, yes?

In which case, why didn't the postie ask for me to sign for it? Other than pure bloody laziness - in the same way they insist on leaving parcels in the meter cupboard outside instead of leaving a card and taking the parcel back to the depot...

Sorry - but it really grips my sh!t when they do that!

Yup, they're supposed to get a signature for it.

There *used* to be a delivery option where it was tracked/traced, but didn't need a signature (which was an optional extra), but not any more.

The proper thing is called 'Recorded Signed for' now, so they should have gotten a signature from you.
No doubt that he's probably signed for it himself.

Well, if I was completely dishonest, then that'd be another replacement softbox cover for me...

I have a friend who's the manager of the postie depot... I might just go and have a word...

Pretend you never received it and claim compo from Royal Mail. That should drop the postman right in the crap when they check the signature.

Happenned to me twice on 2 successive days.

The 1st he signed for it, scribbled through the details on the envelope and posted the letter.

The 2nd was exactly the same as the 1st. I contacted the PO about it but they wasnt too interested in anything other than to say they shouldnt do it but that they know they do. As it was posted through the door, there is no reason that I should be worried about it.

It all makes me think about Time Sensitive documentation though and whether some unscrupulous Postie has taken away or will in the future.

I'm kind of the opposite view. I've been very grateful in the past when my postie has signed for a parcel on my behalf. it saves me a lot of bother (nice neighbourhood etc)

That said, my sister lives in a flat in London where the mail is left on a table in the lobby and anything interesting has a tendency to walk if she doesn't get to it quickly, I've had a cd to her go missing before so in that case having the postie sign and leave it would be a pita.

Go ahead and report this and I will guarantee that you will have to collect all your "signed for deliveries" from the post office from now on. Maybe even when you have been at home!

My postman will nearly always put it through the letterbox for me ( If it will fit ). I have sometimes had to collect from my next door neighbour as well if i'm not in.

It helps that I have spoken to my postie and have asked him to do this for me.

This saves me from going up to my local post office after I get home from work.

I for one hope this continues and would never put his/her job at risk by complaining that I never recieved the package ..... Unless it were true.
