Hi, I 'm in a bit of a calamity. Basically I bought a pretty much brand new Nikon D5000 & 18-55 VR off Freeads for the bargain price of £325. I paid the money and all was going smooth. However, the guy was working on monday, so asked his girlfriend to post it. Which she did, but mixed up and just sent it normal way, hence no insurance, etc WHATSOEVER! :bang:The chap is completely distragught, already said if it doesn't get to me he will sort out a refund, and if it does, don't tell him it hasn't, obviously. So, can anyone reassure me that it wil eventually get here:thumbsdown: And also, he says that the post is still on strike in Cambridge - anyone local know anything? Cause its fine in Wales.

Tks

Wrong forum for this really.

I'm in Cambridge and I've had no problems with post - everything is arriving fine and stuff I post is arriving within 2 days.

TBH this sounds quite scammy to me.

No one can fully assure you that it'll get there if it is just sent by regular post. It should do and it probably will do but sometimes things do go missing.

If you were a dishonest person then you could claim it never arrived and get your money back but I'm assuming you wouldn't do anything as devious as that would you?

No of course not, already told the seller cause he said he hoped I wouldn't do that. The other thing that worries me is that, cause we live in the country, delivery people tend to leave parcels at the gate to the drive - obviously because it is normal post, even more reason for postie to do this. I don't believe its a scammer, as the guy seems very straightforward, and obviously said he would refund if I neve get it. And with these strikes, even more chance of it going missing:bang:

Brand new, and nearly £200 off?!

I hope you are wrong.

don't you mean 'hope you are right'! Well apparently he bought it for this already mentioned girlfriend but she didn't want it so selling it. He doesn't use ebay, as he knew he'd get a lot more on there.

got a pal who is a postie, the last time I spoke to him about strikes he said they send a **** load of mail from edinburgh to some sorting office down south and it was there for a about a week even though they where back to work, sorry to say you might just have to be patient and wait wait wait.......

Michael.

I bought something from a garden centre in Ingerland for the wifes birthday.
Ordered it on the 9th October, wifes birthday on the 13th, email saying it had been despatched on the 14th, arrived yesterday, the 27th.

There are more honest than dishonest people out there so theres still a chance that you'll get your package.
If not all is not lost - afterall its only a Nikon :lol::lol:

I believe that there is a bit of a hoo-ha at the moment, in that other people are being brought in to deliver mail during the strikes. Which the unions are claiming is illegal.

It would concern me, that if someone from the outside were brought in, that they may not possibly have as much, honesty, as the hard working royal mail operatives which are currently working there.

Hopefully your package will arrive, but just a bit delayed. (I think there was another strike planned for Thursday?)

I am in Cambs and our post has been fine apart from one day last week when we didnt get any (Friday I think). Fabric samples I had requested last wednesday via a SAE arrived on the following Saturday morning by normal 1st class post despite the one day strike in between.

I hope this comes good for you.

ps I get a lot of valuable parcels left on my doorstep and so far nothing has ever gone missing. It happens but not that often I like to think!

I do hope I'm wrong but I suspect that you've been kippered.

There are so many scam indicators here. Freeads, such a huge discount for 'as new', bought for girlfriend who doesn't want it, claims to have posted by uninsured service and avoided the admittedly pitiful protection offered by Paypal. Not to mention him blaming Cambridge posties for a problem that doesn't exist. That looks like a full house to me, and you're only holding a pair of fives.

Having worked for Royal Mail for a number of years, (and now NOT, thank God!) far more mail went 'missing' before it was actually posted than in the system itself. It's far too easy to 'blame the Mail'.

So, if it was *actually* posted there is a close to 100% chance that it will be delivered. However from experience of previous stoppages mail that was posted on the day of a strike, can take ten (expletive deleted) days to arrive....

Hope all turns out fine, but prepare for the worst.

Eek.....might just have waved bye bye to your £325.....unless you have an address (assuming it is correct)

I was originally going to send a cheque, but thought about the postage strikes so saidf I'd do a bank transfer. The more I say he sounds completely honest, the more I think not AGGGGG:bang:

Christ.. at least with a cheque you get a name and address.

I really think you've been done I'm afraid. I really hope you get this, but its got big fat scam written over it :'(

I have got his address, and did a quick search for his name on google and his name and his girlfriends name came up on fb so they do exist, and just rang him and he says it was the sorting office that was on strike and once he realised the mistake his girlfrien had made drove down to the po to try and get it back, but despite the receipt they wouln't. so, fingers crossed.

Hate to disillusion you, but now the strike is official there will not be the odd sorting office on strike, their official day is this coming Friday as just announced.

I'm keeping fingers and everything else crossed that you receive it, lawrenceots.

Please keep us updated

Been getting mail in Cambridge, don't think they are any more strike bound than anywhere else
Hope all works out ok for you

what receipt?

A receipt is issued when the postage is paid for, and it's printed with the destination building number and post code if the Standard Parcels service has been used.

Got my post again today (Cambridge) no problem - anything your end OP?

So posties are working the day then??????? better stay in ,am waiting for parcel too.

I heard on the radio this morning, that even though it is a 3 day strike, it is different departments on different days.
So one day is sorting office, another will be delivery and the third something else.

Yes I keep checking RM for details on the strike. It seems to be sorting etc, but there will be (obviously) fewer deliveries/collections. Its set to continue Friday and Saturday too :shake:

Thursday from 4am
43,700 staff across the UK in mail centres, delivery units in mail centres, network logistic drivers and garage staff.
Friday:
MDECs (400 people in three sites - Plymouth, Stockport, Stoke. These workers assist mail centres by reading and entering mail addresses.)
Saturday:
77,000 delivery and collection staff across the UK.

Must say that both myself & some colleagues are getting a bit fed up with people saying "Thought you were on strike" everyday out on delivery :bang: most of us haven't been out at all.
So do us a favour and if you do get your post delivered on SATURDAY make the effort to say thank you, it makes the world of difference to us front line workers to know our efforts are appreciated

If I were you I'd pay a visit to his house to discuss what they're going to do about the postage issues. Offer to collect cash or something from his house. I don't know, try and visit him in person sort of thing.

Well he's already said if I don't get it he'll refund me, but its now been posted so I can't CoC. :'(

Yes, I know, but then all he has to do is stop answering your phone calls/emails/texts etc and you're pretty much screwed...

I'm hoping it's genuine this, I really am, but all the signs are there :(

I see what you mean, thanks. I'll see if I can sort something out

Why don't you do the simplest thing and just ask him to email you a scan (or photo) of the receipt. If he really has a receipt with your post code on it for that date then you are probably ok, if not then I do not know :(

Tell him that you need it so that you can enquire about the package at the local depot so that he does not think that you ask because you do not trust him (even though this is the case really!)
