Rooter not working, please help

I know that  I am a bit worried that the new modem (wireless one) won't work with my pc. Do you think it will come with cables etc?

Yes it should come with a LAN cable, but I doubt it will come as just a modem.

It will be a router with built-in modem and, as well as wireless, it will probably have 4 ports for LAN cables too.

Do I plug it into the wall like my old one?

Now I am starting to wonder about a wind up:lol:

You connect to phone socket, power socket then LAN cable to PC.

Once set up, you can dispense with LAN cable and use wireless if you want.

Not sure if my pc will accept wireless, can I use it in the normal way please with out using wireless? Sorry not technically minded.

That's good, are they easy to set up the cables?

Modem routers come with all the instructions you need to set them up and get connected to the internet. It's quite straightforward, especially if you're going to leave the LAN cable connected. Wireless can be a little bit trickier.

Just make sure you have the password your ISP has given you to get email set up once everything's working.

When I install the CD for the modem do I have to switch on the modem and get on the internet first? Or do I put in details before the modem is switched on? Unsure which is the right procedure.

The password I have with my ISP, would that be what I have with my telephone company of whom I have broadband with?

Usually you put in the CD, follow any prompts and it will tell you when to plug in / switch on the router.

If not, install the software from the CD first then install the router.

Password and name will be the ones Talk Talk gave you.

Did you like my brogue? ;)

Louise, you're making this unnecessarily complicated. Just read the set up instructions that come with the router, and follow them. Get back to us if you run into problems, and we'll try to help.

The user name and password for the router will be in the documentation, and is often printed on the router too. They are usually 'admin' and 'password' or just 'admin' for both. Your mail address and password should be the same as the ones you've been using if you're not changing ISPs.

Sorry I am not very technically minded, worried I am going to mess it up.

Don't worry. If you make mistakes during the set up, the worst that's going to happen is that it won't work. You won't damage anything, and you can just reset everything back to the factory defaults and start again. We'll help. :)
