I found an original Canon lens hood for the nifty fifty on the above site and decided to purchase it at what seems a reasonable price. I sent payment by Paypal which was acknowledged immediately by e-mail. Precisely three minutes later, I received another e-mail saying the item had been despatched. This was at 0927 this morning!! Strange thought I' and then did some research.

To say this trader has mixed reviews is an understatement!

Note to self: Check out supplier before sending payment.

Ah well ... I will sit back and await the arrival of my item.

Of course if all turns out well, then I will let you all know. If it turns out bad, then I will let you all know, and the rest of the world.

What do you know? The hood turned up today by recorded delivery. Excellent service. It is the wrong hood for the lens, but I'll take responsibility for that.

Thanks Jim. I had thought I had nothing from Rocky Cameras that stated the hood was for the nifty, but on checking my order acknowledgement, I have. I shall return the item for a full refund.

I may yet have more to report.

Rocky Cameras have a stand at the Wolverhampton Camera Fair. True his gear is not the most pristine shinny and new but I have always found him ok and his stuff works.

Ordered from Rocky Cameras 3 times now, not a hood experience in general:

1. - ordered a lens a week before I went on holiday, then discovered he was on holiday himself so sent an email asking to cancel the order as I didn't want the postman to keep trying to deliver when I was away. No reply from him or no refund when I returned 3 weeks later. Had to file a PayPal claim and hit my refund eventually.

2. - ordered an old Nikon lens, arrived a few days later with no problems

3. - ordered a lens needing it for the weekend, emailed to ensure it would arrive but it didn't. Waited 2 weeks and nothing, filed a PayPal claim 3 days ago to which he said he'd sent it and sent PayPal a tracking number which didn't work. Miraculously arrived this morning by RM Signed For so he must not have sent it until a few days ago.

His prices are good but communication is awful, both lenses I bought were as described and cheap though. Just a battle to actually get it or get your money back.

You've been lucky, most of his stock is tat you wouldn't offload at a boot sale. Even the cheap stuff is often way overpriced!

My latest deal has been for a pair of fake Lee grads, they did arrive next day though which was nice.
