Hi
I'll be covering the BARC saloon racing at the end of May and have managed to secure a trackside pass. Having never taken photos at Rockingham before (apart from the pit roof), can anyone share some of the better infield spots? I'm guessing the obvious place is the outside of the hairpin at Turn 2? Any other suggestions gratefully received.
Thanks

You won't get anywhere near the outside of the hairpin at turn 2 however Rockingham's one redeeming feature is that you don't have to walk far to get to a lot of the corners so you can easily work out where will be best for you.

I did have a copy of the red zones when I was there last September. I'll have a look tonight and see if I still have it. There were a few corners that weren't in the red zone, but you had to cross the track to get to them, and you would have been stuck there for a while. One issue I had was the bright sunshine which you were either shooting into, or was reflecting off the grandstands etc. Here's a link to the shots I took whilst I was there, and you can probably work out which corners they were taken at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1073203246031243.1073741983.248878411797068&type=3

I had nothing longer than a 300mm on a full frame body with me, and used my 17-40mm for the shots at one corner where you are very close to the edge of the track.

JohnStewart - thanks for the info. I like the first shot at the chicane - is that just before it loops back onto the oval? The meeting I'm at is running the International Sportscar circuit, so the chicane will be included.
Thanks again
Yes, it is the chicane just before it joins the main oval again. You don't need a long lens to get shots there and a wide angle for the close up side on shots at entry.

Rockingham without media pass - awful.
Rockingham with - ok

Climb to very top of a grandstand
Tarzan
top of hill for turn 4,
chicane near end of lap where they rejoin oval
photographer slots on outside of banking towards first corner
etc

Found the document. Instead of showing red zones, Rockingham show the safe working areas in green.
