Hi there peeps,
I'm planning a bit of a road trip with a friend to Paris at the end of March, with stop offs on the way. It's only a short break about four days and so far the itinerary is - Starting off in Normandy, with a cheeky detour to Ghent in Belgium (looks lovely) the following day. Then off to Lille and arriving in Paris.
So my questions are -

1. If you were coming along, what places and sites would you want to get pictures of?
2. What are your top 3 locations in Paris that are a must?

I know we've a lot to cram into a short space of time, but we are being sponsored by Red Bull, PRO+ and Costa Coffee so what could possibly go wrong. I may just regret that last bit!!!!

OMG you're going to be pinging off the walls! Have fun and sorry I have no advice!

Cheers Gregg,
Excited about the trip, may not be so enthused at the end of it, but should still be worth it.

As you are being sponsored is you route already planned, David? If so, then ignore the rest of this and have a great trip. Ghent is worth a visit.

If not, going from somewhere in Normandy to Ghent and then back to Paris involves a lot of travel.

Don't know where you want to go in Normandy,(but as you want to visit Paris, Lille and Ghent, I'm assuming it is eastern Normandy) but why not go from Normandy to Paris, then on to Lille and then Ghent and return via Ostend or Calais?

Thanks for the input Tringa, we have the timetable all planned out, granted it was a bit rushed late one evening. We,ve limited time in Paris, which is fine because we think we know what we want to photograph there. Never been to Ghent, so really looking forward to visiting there. It's a shame that when we go we'll have missed the light festival, which looks amazing. We're sailing to Dunkierque so that's kind of why the route is the way it is. We want to visit a few of the WW2 sites.

There's a fort in Lille that's still a military installation, and along with the park, is probably the most interesting thing there. IIRC there are also some sculptures in parkland near the Eurostar station, and the cafes around the old Gare in the centre of town can provide some interesting colour. Other than that Lille doesn't have much really, though it's a couple of years since I last went, and I didn't go as a togger.

For Paris.. You're a brave man for driving!
A must that I like to do every time I'm there!

- Starting off a Le Lourve (Art Museum) take a look around there, and see the Mona Lisa.

- Then when finished walk through the Jardin des Tuileries until you reach Obelisque de Louxor (Cleopatras Needle),

- Then cross the road, you're at the bottom of the Champs Elysees (Expensive and a one off road, I believe the only McDonalds with a white 'M' Logo is on this road, along with Chanel, Cartier etc)

- Walk along the Champs Elysees, shopping, sight seeing, depending how well off you are, possible not best to get food/drink on here, a pint is about 10 Euros!

- Then at the very top of this road, the Arc de Triomphe. GO up the Arc de Triomphe just as the sun sets, and flop out your camera! Snap away, one of he best views in Paris, simply beautiful.

Theres so many opportunities for great photographs on this route, when you return please link me to the thread! I love the Parisian photos/experiences.

Thanks for the heads up on Lille, maybe we will spend a little more time in Ghent. :)
Will do Liam and thanks for your input. Getting close now, can't wait to get going:)

I am the friend going with Dave!

Excitement is high!!!

Ashburner, I know the exact route you mean (proposed to the wife in jardin Des Tuileries) - great call on the sunset from the arc de triomphe thanks!

Can we get tripods up there?

Driving in Paris is a NIGHTMARE and parking for more than a few minutes is an even bigger nightmare, I would park outside the city and go in by train and use a "Hop on Hop off" tour bus like "Big Bus Paris" formally "Les Cars Rouge" as these will visit all the popular places and run every 15 minutes or so, costs about £20.00 for a one day ticket, save money by buying on-line at http://eng.bigbustours.com/paris/home.html.

Hi Paul - route to paris, hotel and parking all sorted.

Once there we get a visite Paris ticket which gives us metro travel for 2 days (£18) and the rest on foot!
