Road Trip 18 Countries 'Picture Theme Help'

Hi,

Back in October and November I ran this daily thread http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=35785
I tried to take a few pictures each day to make a picture diary of the 9000 mile road trip through Eastern Europe and Russia which actually ended up being a few trips and almost 20,000 miles with the highlight staying at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Moscow (£75 for my main course of Sushi :shrug: and a total bill of £2200 for 2 days:nuts:)
The worst part was spending 6hrs trying to cross the border from Belarus into Russian in -9 degrees and snowing.
With the first trip, due to the nature of the work I couldn’t disclose which countries I was travelling through.

This is where I need your help...:love:

I am currently planning my next trip which will take me through 18 countries in one long trip.
Where I need your help is that last time I was hiding where I was, also time sometimes didn’t permit me to take the pictures so the daily diary wasn’t what I wanted it to be.
This time I want to show where I have been on a daily basis, I should have enough time to take the pictures I want.

For my next trip I am looking for a theme :help:

I would like a theme that I can follow through all the countries that will depict where I am and have continuity through all the countries.

This time I want to challenge myself, I normally take pictures of cars / sports / or party girls. :thumbs:

I would like to try something very different but I am stuck for ideas:help:

Your help is greatly appreciated and I hope you all look in when I start the new daily dairy.

No1: Frontiers (borders)

No2: Street Signs

No3: View from hotel room

No4: Regional booze

No4: Petrol Stations and prices
 
You can't go far wrong with blondes :D

How about Police uniforms of Europe?
 
How about border crossings ? Not very original but will create a record of countries visited.

Good challenge.

Not sure if you’re aware but border crossings don’t let you take pictures and if they see you they will make you delete them.

I like this one, were off to a good start.:woot:

I will make a top ten list of themes from everyone’s input then I will follow the TP's favourites from the list

Alphabetical town names? Signs perhaps?
Petrol stations? Cafes?
Hot police chicks?
 
I am also looking for an all round high quality lens to use for this trip.
My current daily lens is a Canon 24-70 2.8 L and I always carry my 70-200 2.8 L but for this type of trip I cant see that one getting used to often.

I know this question has been covered many times but with these trips being so diverse I want a lens that is the dogs danglies but also small in size.:thinking:
I am looking to be able to from time to time drop the battery grip from my 5d lock on a great (small in size) lens and have a easy to handle weapon.

This is one I have in mind but open to suggestions Click Here

All good ideas, my only concern is my ability:thinking: to make a good composition photo.

Signs and petrol stations are easy to take but not easy to make great (or not for me)

I do like the signs though so it’s on the list.

Dont know if you have the time to, but a photo of a typical house in each country and as a bonus the family that live in it posing outside.

Wow now there is a list:nuts:

The few I do like are

Scary Insects (Would have to pick up a Macro lens for this)

Pubs but i might change that to local beers

And view from hotel room

how about service stations, i guess you'd be visiting plenty, you could get pics of the staff, the building, the menus etc i'm sure you could make them interesting, and it would be good to see the differences in each country. good luck with your journey
 
how about houses.... take a pic of a typical house before you leave and then in one in each place you visit.... compare the standards of living..... oh maybe im going a wee bitty too deep.

Now this one could stir up a storm back in the U.K. if I take pictures of the prices of fuel and my receipt to show the differences across Europe.

If I remember correct I was paying somthing like 19p ltr in Russia.

I like the idea of local beer/beverages from around the world that you have drunk:

Fruity tea in Turkey, Vodka in Russia, Tiger Beer in China..... would/could make for an interesting collage poster.

Take what images you like :D But i think it would be a good idea to get some images of the locals in "local attire"
non male of course :D
 
i like the drinks one, maybe expand to to a typical local meal... food/drink and waiting staff (that way you got an above averege chance of pleasing those that want the girls in the pic.... nice waitress/barmaid) lol
 
Sorry haven't got any ideas but wow would love to drive to Russia. Every year I do a roadtrip trip somewhere.

I did a trip down to Dubrovnik last month which was nice, last Feb I drove to Nordkapp (the most Northernly point in Europe) and wow that was amazing. Drove to Romania last July also which was different for sure! Been all over Czech Rep, Poland, Austria, Switzerland on smaller trips and been everywhere in Germany now!

Are you now able to disclose your route through the countries as I would be interested to know as I need to plan something for next years trip. Thinking of doing Northern Africa, Turkey, Nordkapp (again) or perhaps into Russia.
