Hi all

I insure with LV and just got a promotion email for the above dashcam for £59.99 looking up it does seem like a nice bit of kit at a best(?) price.

Has anyone anyone got personal experience of that make & model?

TIA:)

Don't know anything about it but it does seem like a decent price, they start about £75 on Amazon.

I don't know about this model, but I watched a YouTube video that explained in great detail that, despite claims, the video quality of all dashcams is limited by the technology, they all use the same basic components and so are all equal, regardless of price. Basically, according to the video, all that we get for more money is more features.

Going off at a tangent, a friend of mine, a taxi driver, has just had a crash. Only minor injuries, but his car is a write off, he has now lost his income until his insurers sort it out and the other driver, who he says drove from a side road, ignoring the give way road markings, into his car without stopping, is claiming that he is at fault. Photos that he took at the scene should be enough, but his dashcam wasn't any help because the sucker had fallen off the glass a few minutes earlier and he hadn't got round to re-attaching it - very useful devices, but only if they're actually in use:(

I don't have one but if I were to fit such a thing I'd be looking for something similar to the systems fitted on buses; that is always on and covers 360 degrees. The sad truth is, without independent witnesses it always comes down to "he said, she said" and the insurers settle, often to the detriment of the innocent party. :(

Totally off topic but is assume he has damage to the corner probably including bumper. If that's true he's looking at 50:50 without a dash cam.

If it were said impact only he wouldn't need the footage. Exactly the kind of impact where you want your dash cam to work.

Assuming that his account is correct he should be OK.
The other car hit his nearside door pillar and each of the nearside doors, but I take your point.

If the other party were exiting a clearly defined side road (give way lines or not?) and "T-boned" the other party........ surely a 'slam-dunk' as to who was at fault!

I was looking at the Road Angel Halo dash cams recently, but some of the reviews put me off.

It's quite the minefield and they do use different tech, which can result in considerably different image quality, especially at night where it can become very noticable between a good dashcam and a poor quality one. I believe the Sony STARVIS 2 is considered the best sensor tech at the moment, so you'll want a dash cam that has that. Novatech is another sensor I've heard of, EDIT: sorry, Novatech is a processor, I think it's Omnivision I'm thinking of. Also, the Sony IMX415 (which I think is in some of the Halo ones).

Other important tech includes proper HDR, parking modes and being able to connect with your phone. The latter I find to be an excellent feature because it means footage can be extracted with ease, as opposed to pulling the card and downloading onto a computer and the inevitably forgetting to put the card back in the dashcam! lol

My dashcam has done me well for over 10 years, but it was showing its age. I just upgraded to one that has the STARVIS 2 sensor and all the other features mentioned. The image quality is fantastic, although my centre speaker is reflecting onto the window, so I might need to look at a CPL.
