just wanna rant a little about a recent purchase on this site this is the link
http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=298855 i payed through paypal they got suspended for a few days and now i am left with no reply's from whittie and no goods it looks like i have been ripped off have you got any advice for me please on what i could do about it i would appreciate it i payed £320 out of my savings from my cancer funds perhaps its my own fault. shell :'(

not sure if you paid by gift or not, but is it possible to dispute with paypal (I don't think you can if you paid by gift), but to be fair its been less then a week since you had your offer accepted so it may well take longer to send. Have you tried one of the numbers in the thread also?
 
Why did you get suspended? It says in thread: "Both parties given a 3 day suspension for deliberately circumventing the classifieds rules."
 
You may have a problem due to the fact that J4M13 was the one technically selling the items and whittle was just using high post count to advertise the sale..

Also paypal wont allow a charge back because you paid via paypal gift.

Maybe theres more experienced people on here with better knowledge. Hope you get it sorted out though.. Best of luck
 
Hang on, how do you/we know that the J4M13 guy who came on and said the items are mine, is the person selling the items? It could have been anyone pretending to be the OP?
 
Actually clicktor is correct. You could have just been scammed by someone hijacking the thread.
 
Yeah and I notice the offer was accepted immediately at a fair bit lower than the asking. It may be that you have been 100% scammed there. Then again they did post their email and phone number up on the thread. Try phoning the mobile number?

If that were the case it would seem strange for the Op (Whittie) not to of said anything about it

I would expect that the OP would have said something if that were the case. He hasn't been online since his suspension and I would have though he would have contacted us to protest his innocence if that were the case.

Michelle, have you tried phoning/emailing the seller?
 
Did you pay paypal gift or a normal payment? If normal that's better as you might be able to do a chargeback or get some assistance, but outside of ebay I think it's harder for buyers to get protection.

It wasn't the op/buyer that was suspended it was the seller and the person claiming to be the owner of the goods.

I'd assume that the IP addresses were the same...:shrug:

I would have thought they would be different even if it was a legit sale. i.e. Either she was scammed so they will be different, or if it was really his mate selling the items that came on, surely it's most likely he posted from his location/line so IP would be different anyway.

I'd be phoning the number posted and asking the mods for the number posted in the original thread which Marcel will be able to retreive as they can see edits.

NOt necessarily, they were apparently circumnavigating the rules regarding minimum criteria for classified access, hence the suspensions. They might have been on two different computers.

As Marc said, have you tried emailing or telephoning either of them?
 
The suspension was enforced only 24 hours after OP.
Perhaps Whittie tried logging in after suspension and thought it was a permanent ban? I dont know. try asking a member of staff if the IP address' are the same
 
Yeah best bet is to ask admins for a screenshot of all edits, IP addresses and information held for the entire thread.
 
If it's any help a bit of digging has uncovered the seller (not Whittie)'s approximate address.....
 
Have to be very vigilant at all times although I must say the alarm bells would have rung when someone popped up saying the gear was really theirs

Hope it all works out, suspect it may not though

I have to say, alarm bells would have started ringing for me too.
 
oh dear.. looks like some random hijacked the thread claiming it was their stuff..

i thought you couldnt access classifieds under 100 posts? or is that just starting new threads? worth changing if the former?

It's not a random hijack, Neil, the J4M13 person has the stuff advertised elsewhere, with the same photos and phone number, which ties in with other stuff he's sold.
 
So begs the question was the OP a friend of the seller or just another bodybuilding mountain biking astra driver?

ah right i see.. was just a little odd that a user with 0 posts jumped in and claimed ownership.

personally at that point my spidey senses would have gone balistic :eek:
 
I thought people with less than 100 posts were not able to post in classifieds. How did this guy manage to post with 0 posts?

j4m13 sent me his email for paypal so i guess it was him i payed it looks like i have been stung lloks like i will have to save again so there go's me gettin back into photography i was much looking forward to it after my illness. shell

don't give up that easily, on one hand its only been a week but phone him as Flashy says and ask...............report him to the police for the scam too (if you get nowhere phoning him
 
i am going to try the police next if i get no satisfaction i have also pm'd marcel for any help he can give but a big thankyou to you all for the help i will keep ou all informed. shell
