Does any body have, or used to have, a Ring video doorbell?

Just after some feedback on it and whether it is worth buying or not

Link to the product webpage HERE

Hi Keith,

My neighbours son has one and is very happy with it.

There is a big thread on avforums about it, will see if I can find it.

Cheers Kev

Have been reading some reviews, both written and YouTube, and there seem to be some negatives that crop up quite a lot.

Also it seems every time they update the software, automatically, they break the app - loads of people moaning about this

Would be good to have some first hand reviews of people actually using it now

Theyve released V2 over in the states which seems to iron out most of issues people were complaining about. But I don't think its been released here yet

When I see him at the weekend I will ask and post back.

Hi Keith,

Spoke to him and he is very happy with the purchase.

Not had any issues and also works well.

Let me know if you have any more questions and I can ask him.

Thanks

Think I am going to end up giving this a miss, to many of the same negatives keep popping up in various reviews.

I may go down the route I first considered of a POE CCTV camera monitoring the front of the house, never installed anything like this before so it will be a bit of a learning curve, especially so as I intend to utilise power line adapters in the set up

It would be cheaper than the Ring Video Doorbell as well

I've just bought one , I've not fitted it yet so can't comment on how good it is in action. They only down side is the quite costly cloud storage .

I don't think there are too many PoE power line adapters on the market so unsure how reliable they are.

I have a Hikvision camera above our front door, was a doddle to setup but I have several POE switches in the house and one in the garage so was just a single cable from there.

Works a treat and can have it notify and record on motion detection etc. There is no doorbell so won't work quite the same way as the ring.

I was going to use a POE injector alongside the power line adapters.

I already have a doorbell in place so not a worry on that front.

My main priority is to have something cover the door/front of the house - have a neighbor who is a pain from time to time, also had my bins nicked a few times and filled with others rubbish, plus the local kids who sometimes think the front of my house/garden is a playground or through route to the back of the houses

Then it sounds like CCTV is your best option :)

I use Hikvision as they are affordable, well made and fairly intuitive to use.
Think mine were £100 per camera.

Think it's 4MP and 1080p, the night is decent enough as well but would benefit from some external IRs somewhere as the internal ones are not brilliant but for £100 is decent enough.
