What a weekend, a friend in the Royal Navy Reserves asked me to come a take a few promo shoots at a Veterans Celebration at Wollton Hall in Nottingham this weekend.
He mainly wanted some photos of the Minster of Defence talking to them shaking hands, the usual look who I was talking to today kinda shot for the website, needing some experience in this sort of thing I jumpped at the chance.
It turned out to being much more than just a few publicity shots for the Navy Reserves, the official press photographer didnt turn up, i am assuming due to awful weather and lack of people at the event, but as a result I was asked to step in and photograph the whole event.
So I spent the day following the Minster of Defence and the Mayor of Nottingham round doing a meet and greet and a presentation service for veterans. Several hundred photos later and after thanking the photography god that I had bothered taking extra cards and batteries I have been sorting through the photos and I am really pleased with what I have accomplished.
Although it was a bit daunghting having to take these photos really quickly with little or no room for error as I only had one chance at some of the photos, I really enjoyed the experince, the photos are being used on the Wollton website, Armed forces websites, promotional material for the veterans helpline, The British Legion, and hopefully the Nottingham Evening Post (who never bothered sending the photographer).
It goes to show no matter how bad a day it might start off, it can always at the drop of a hat change to work in your favour, I now have people that hopefully may bare me in mind next time they need a promotional photographer and some good shots to put in my portfolio.
