Ricoh GR III Owners Thread

I haven't really given it a proper outing. I was in London for a night shoot (with my Nikon FF) and I went an hour early to try this out (along with iphone).
I'm planning to use it as an adjunct to my Fuji with 27mm for street when I need wider.
So far I like it. The only thing I don't like is the micro sd card whichis very fiddly to insert and remove, especially with my arthritic fingers.
I didn't like the sound of a microSD card either but when I heard that there was 50GB+ onboard memory I wondered if it would ever need the card.

I've got a camera with a micro SD card (Panasonic GX800) and never had to remove it.

I've got a Ricoh GR3x with a normal sized card and never removed that either. I use a cable for when loading pics to PC. When done, the cable charges the camera battery.

I need the GRiv Monochrome in my life…. Just placed preorder.

Hi all,

I've recently joined the GR club with the IV HDF. Loving the form factor and not missing the viewfinder as much as I thought I would. Going for a city break this weekend so will be giving it a proper test. I had a question if anyone uses the GR's with DxO PureRaw or similar. It's currently not recognising the DNGs and throwing an error.

Also, any must have accessories? I've ordered a thumb grip. Any tips on a very small case would be great received. I'll post some pics next week.

Hi, you can jazz it up with a square hood, a leather wrist strap, thumb grip (you already have). But I prefer not to, these things are not necessary, as far as I'm concerned. I have bought two spare batteries and charger.

My preferred case/bag is something like this, holds camera and phone with padding in between. Have it a lower and it's like a holster:

I can't speak for the GRIV specifically, but DXO tend to be a bit slow at supporting new camera model file formats, so you may just need to wait for them to update.

Confusingly they list that the GRIV "is" supported, but this is the GRIV "digital" released in2011, not the current GRIV.

Ahhh, I saw that and thought how odd the GRIV is supported but HDF isn't given the lens and sensor is identical. I submitted a request so guess we'll see.

You can see on the support page that they added support for the "GRIV" in version 7 of PhotolLab and version 3 of Pure Raw: years before the current Ricoh GR IV was released, so it has to refer to the older GR "digital" range.

Lets see what @gramps has to say. He's used a GR and DxO .......
I only used the GRiii & GRiiix and DXO Photolab 5 worked fine with those RAW files, however I haven't used the GRiv or DXO Pure Raw. :)

The GR III has been supported since Photolab 3.0 and Pure Raw 1. The GR IIIx since Photolab 5.1 and Pure raw 2. but as I said above they don't yet support the new GRiv.

I have the GRiv monochrome on pre order and also am umming and arrrgggging over whether to pick up the GRiv too, but I’m seeing so many comments about them freezing up I’m hesitant too. Is it just a batch issue or should I be worried? Does the GRiii do the same?

Never had a problem with my GRiii or iiix

This is why I went for a HDF, hoping it was an early batch issue. If you a normal IV it would be hard to know if it was early stock or new.

Problem is, if you are wanting a monochrome sensor for the benefits/options that brings, anything else won't cut it.
