Up until a month ago, on occasions, I used Topaz Denoise AI to sharpen/denoise Ricoh GRiii DNG files. I've been away for a month (taking a lot of photos on the GRiii) and now discover that the DNG files are unsupported in Denoise. I know this is a legacy and unsupported product, but have they restricted it anyway? I bought my copy way back for full price, before the era of subscriptions. I'm rather hoping the error is mine!

I notice the same thing is happening with Silver Efex Pro - which I believe is a different company, hence my hope that the issue is something I've done.

Any ideas?

Interesting, I though DNG was a universal format irrespective of camera/brand. I have used DNG on my Pentax DSLRs since that was an introduced as an option, rather than risk using PEF which is more likely to be unsupported.

I'll have a look with my software and K-1 files.

The DNGs produced by cameras are camera make and model specific; I assume that even though the data is stored in a common format. how it needs to be demosaiced is still specific to the individual camera sensor and processor.

Camera DNGs are therefore not the same as the linear DNGs, that programs like DXO produce, which are (or should be) a universal format.

That I did not know Graham, I did not think DNGs were brand/camera specific which was part of the appeal in using the format, as a preference to PEF. You learn a new thing everyday...

Then I would have thought it unlikely to have been changed and as the GRiii is 'old' and previously worked I'm guessing the error is down to something user-related.

Edging forwards. I have discovered that if I open Topaz DeNoise AI as a standalone application then I can edit my Ricoh DNG files, but if I open it from within Lightroom then I get the unsupported file type message. Looks like it might be Lightroom that has been upodated whilst I was in New Zealand. Investigation continues...
