I have a Sunday ticket to RIAT but I live local and if I have time tomorrow afternoon I'm tempted to go and watch a bit of flying if I can.

I know of all the paid fields you can use but can anyone give me details of any free locations they know of, whether that be a good layby, roadside anything? If you have any postcodes or landmarks of the locations that would also be great.

The entry road is where all the togs were lining the road today.

There's no parking there so was full of cheapskates who wouldn't buy a ticket :exit:
Which entry road are you talking of? There's three gates.

One of the best 'free' viewing areas has to be around crash gates 13&14a, next to Rhymes farm but access by car is near impossible. Jamie, if you have a push bike, take the back roads to Fairford village, there should be no problem finding somewhere to park and cycle in. We've been doing this for years, not like I'm a tight Yorkshire man  :D

Good advice :)

Be warned if you do decide to drive close to the airfield and walk the rest of the way in, Traffic wardens were ticketing cars parked on verges around Rhymes barn this afternoon

We must have been there about the same time Simon, we saw them ticketing cars too, first time in all the years I've been going I've seen them do it, the police usually just move them on.

Today they actually closed all the side roads off the A417 that led down to the airfield, access was by foot or cycle only, at least it saved folks getting tickets
