Rhine Cruise, which Camera

In about 6 Weeks (Begining Oct) Wife and I going on a Rhine Cruise with Shearings, so taking into consideration my Wife not interested in Photography, and I would
like to shoot and see the sights do I :-

a) take my Bridge Camera (Canon SX60) or

b) my DSLR (Canon 660d with 55mm & 100-400 mm Lens)

and should I take a Tripod.

Leaning towards the SX60 because of fantastic Zoom and light weight??

Don't know about the cameras, but isn't there a risk that a tripod will simply transmit vibration and motion from the boat straight to your camera? A pair of legs with flexed rather than locked knees might actually give a better platform. I'd take a monopod rather than tripod for other occasions when a bit of stabilisation is required; it won't give you long exposures, but it might help some on-land shots, and is MUCH less of a faff in setting up etc, thus keeping you more in your OH's good books!

You'll appreciate the zoom trying to make something of the castles along the cliffs,
The small towns along the banks are typically medieval style and walking there a wide angle would be useful;

We did a cruise from Amsterdam to Basel last June.
I was shooting on APS-C and had the range 10mm to 300mm covered, but in honesty used an 18-135 most of the time

My view is
* the 100-400 is too long, and the 55 too limiting
* the bridge will give you more flexibility over the zoom range that you will need
* shoot RAW if possible

I don't thing a tripod will be worth the hassle. Not much use on a boat as in addition to the vibration the boat is also moving.
You will not have opportunity / be allowed to use in churches / castles anyway.
Monopod with ball head can be useful though

I went on a rhine cruise a couple of years ago, took a 40D , 10/20 and a 70/200-far too much kit never used most of it.
Take your bridge camera and have a holiday.
If you want pix of the castles buy a postcard, they are far better than the shots you will get from the boat

Thanks Lads, you just confirmed my own thoughts on the subject, the SX60 it is.
