weekly RG Miller 2016 - 52 Challenge

Fantastic colours there Richard and a really great piece for the subject.
I also like the deep red gradiented background.
Top Marks !

Thanks! First time out for the red background! I ironed it a bit wonky - not wanting to get too proficient - but was really pleased with the results.

Belting camera, had a quick Google and they seem to date from the mid to late 1800. Does it still work?

Quite a daring BG for such an old object, but I like it.

Cheers and welcome aboard.

I think it works! It has three slide frames which take the glass? photosensitive plates numbered one to six - so presumably they held a separate image each side of the plate. It also has a wind up shutter with a rubber bulb release! The rubber is like a golf ball now though!

As others have said there's great colours here, the red background really compliments the wood on the camera. This is a really nice capture, you've made it look effortless and easy but a lot of thought has gone into this shot. Well done!

An image of a camera on a photography forum?
What's all that about Eh? :D

A cracking start Richard

Wow - beautiful camera and so nicely taken. Love the richness of the wood which is probably helped a little with that red backdrop. (Playing catch-up - didn't realise TP52 2016 had kicked off!)

Very nice I don’t know what it is maybe a little steam engine... a really interesting shot.

Thanks - my father in law was a mining engineer and the had to make model engines as part of the apprenticeship! It will run quite nicely on compressed air too! Nice toy that has been living in various garages - pretty heavy piece of metal for sure!

Oowww you beauty. The soft lighting highlights the metal and patina wonderfully and allows the elegant engineering to "shine" through.

Contrasting background works well too.

A superbly stylish effort and a joy to look at.

Thank you. The lighting was a single tungsten flood set well back to the left and shuttered to avoid too much spill onto the background. Simple but created a soft industrial feel for the shot.

Is it a water pump?

Love the background and shadows! Brilliant shot!

Thanks! See above , I think it was a model of a steam powered pump engine.

Hi, fantastic object, well lit and on a metal BG nice work

Thanks Al!

I love this - great lighting and choice of background for a fascinating old object. The only thing that could have made it better for me is if you could have hidden the part which joins the (rubber?plastic?) tiles as then I think the background would have passed for metal too. I do like the texture and pattern in the bg. Great shot!

Yup! Agreed. I did think of that when I was editing!! The edge out of shot is straight so it would have been easy to swap round! Hey ho!!

It is a shame about the joining edge of the background but I like the colour tones and its a lovely price of machinery.

Nice, great background ( is it workshop floor tiles ? ) good light too.

Hi Clice - thanks!!

Yes you have rumbled me! They are workshop flooring section - the sort you have by a lathe or such! They are fairly cheap and make great backdrops as they clip together - pretty good for standing on too!
