First of all, thanks for everyone that helped with all the advice and info..

These are obviously my first ever photos using a manual flash, so any tips, advice or criticism are greatly appreciated!

Here is what I got in the end:

* Yongnuo YN-560 II YN560II Flash Speedlite
* Yongnuo RF-603 wireless flash transceiver
* Camlink Professional Photo Photography Studio Light Stand (excellent build quality for the price)
* 80cm Octagon Umbrella Softbox Reflector Softbox
* 23cm Speedlight Flash Softbox Diffuser
* Flash Hot Shoe Umbrella Mount Type B

Some results with the Yongnuo YN-560 II inside the 23cm softbox handheld to the left of the camera..

I think reflectors will be your fav tools in the near future, they will help you polish the lighting in those pics and make an unbelievable difference to how you use light and shadow.

Good start with what looks like a natural subject, looks like the last shot is a sweet quantity fee.:)

Hi
I like the first 3 shots, especially the lighting. The fourth one, lighting-wise, looks nice and soft, busy background just draws my eye away though. I'm assuming you 'cancelled' out the ambient in the first three?

Thanks Steve, I will definitely look into it! In the last shot he demanded 4, we deliberated and he settled on 4 :)

Hi Johny, yes the first 3 were my first attempt at low key with no ambient..

Today I played around with an old gpu cooler..
