Did my usual Thursday night trundle to Ipswich for the speedway last night. The junior mascot was about three - smallest one we've had so far this season, and was with his grandad who was kitted out with a D2X, flash on a HUGE bracket, etc etc. Got chatting with Grandad ("I do weddings") before we went to do the photos of the little 'um with fave rider, team captains etc, and he happened to mention that he'd just bought a 400d " just for snaps" and was disappointed that the chap he'd got it from only had a big, long lens with it, as what he wanted was something small enough not to need a proper camera bag. I mentioned in passing that I had an 18-55mm kit lens to move on - and I was only wanting £30 for it if he was interested - expected him to say he'd think about it and never hear any more as people do, but instead he thought for a minute, then asked if it was in good condition. Upon hearing that it was he promptly took £30 out of his pocket, handed it over, and asked if I could let him have the lens next week! :woot: THAT saves the hassle of ebaying it for sure! :D

£30 for that lens is way over-priced! You did very well!!!! :D

I think what you meant to say was

£30 for that lens is a very reasonable price! You did very well!!!! :D

:D

The last price I could remember anyone asking for one (might have been Matt Charlton?) was £30 - couldn't remember whether it actually sold at that but from the speed of the transaction the chap clearly thought he was happy with it so I'm not feeling guilty. It would have cost him more in Jessops! ;)

I hope you feel smug and a little guilty

I hope you pointed him in this direction too

Not until this thread has sunk out of site I'm bloomin' well not! ;)

I hope you feel smug and a little guilty

I was a little worried earlier - genuinely didn't want to feel I was ripping the man off. Having checked ebay though I feel better now as they are going for around the £40 mark inc postage on there. I KNOW mine is a pretty sharp copy and it is in absolutely mint condition too. :)

You could have swapped it for his big long one Witchy ...

Good for you anyway ...

:p

but they are only £50 new... who buys a used one for £40

... as long as you and he are happy

the mysterious way of ebay ! people pay well over the odds for loads of stuff everyday !

Ain't that just the truth though - never fails to amaze me. If you're careful then you can get some great bargains on eBay BUT you have to be prepared to play a patient game and set yourself a limit not to be breached. If you're the type of person who can get into trouble with gambling, ebay is not for you IMO!

And Ven - behave yourself! :p :D

Actually if Ven keeps talking like that, Janice will be along in a minute!

Betcha still wear white socks and stilettoes tho?

Weird that someone with a D2X would buy a Canon as a backup. You would have thought something that would take his Nikon lenses would have been more appropriate - D40 maybe.

Perhaps he's seen the light?! :D

i have a friend who has a d2x and a d2h through work, he's a photographer for a local paper but when out and got a canon 1d mk2 last month with 3 L glass. as for the kit lens, i said 30 quid for mine too, for the range it covers it's worth it.
