Sorry folks yet another newbie printing question from me. I'm resizing some pics to have them printed at A4. I have resized my canvas in CS4 to 297mm x 210mm but this is giving me a picture size of around 3500pixels x 2480pixels on my screen, it seems a bit huge but is this right? I have never sent any pics off for print before so assumed that once I had resized the canvas to the dimensions I want the picture on my screen would also be that size, If someone could clear this up for me it would be much appreciated as I'm hoping to send off for the prints tomorrow or Tuesday.

Cheers
Tommy.

Cheers for the link mate, just read through it and maybe just me being a doofus but I don't see anything there that answers my worry about my actual image on screen being too big :(

I have my canvas size and ppi set to what I need so do I just ignore whatever the actual size of pic is on my screen ?(just worried I'm going to send off a huge image and only get part of it printed out)

Tommy.

I would just send off the pic to the printers the way it is. A4 is near enuf 2x3 format so it's unlikly you'll lose much unless it's a very tight crop. It makes no difference to the printer if it's a 2mb file or a 5mb file, if you ask for A4 you will get A4.

I think when starting out it's best to forget about ppi uless you are printing out a very large size print, it's just something else to confuse peeps.

You will probably set your canvas size at 300dpi, ie dots per inch. Say your screens is 1200px wide, that is 1200 dots, so at actual size, on your monitor you would only be able to see 4 inches worth of your image.

Printers can put a lot more dots into a given space than is possible on a monitor!
