Hi everyone, i really could do with some help, i have an image that i want to print in a4, but the crop won't match up, could anyone give me any advice on how i can get the picture to fit a4? i know that i may need to crop some more so that the image is not distorted but when i try it all goes wrong!! i have photoshop cs3 and lightroom. any help would be much appreciated.

thanks
Chris

Chris you need to select the Photoshop crop tool and then put the A4 dimentions in the height and width boxes at the top. Make sure you put it with 'in' or 'cm' etc. If you're preparing for printing then you need to set the DPI to an appropriate number - 300 is a good start. Then simply drag over the image and move the crop around until it looks right.

Hi Chris,

This is what I do:-

In Lightroom do all your developing, Exposure, White balance, Crop (Leave crop setting on Original. Export out as a .jpeg, 300dpi No Resize.

In Photoshop, select all, image size and change the size to what you want, make sure Constrain proportions is checked.

This may help:- http://www.photoshopessentials.com/essentials/image-resizing.php

Thats another method but of course that way you can only keep the proportions if the ratio is the same as A4. Otherwise you need to see what you are going to crop

You will need to crop it to the same ratio as A4 (1:1.41), I do this by setting the aspect ratio within the crop feature in Lightroom.

At that point I create a snapshot, so I can get back to that crop quickly in the future, export, then reset it to the original aspect ratio, from a previous snapshot, so that all images in my catalog are at the correct aspect ratio.

Cheers lads, that's helped me out loads, simple really lol!

thanks again..
Chris.
