I have a camera which is missing its red insert from the film advance viewing window on the rear of the body.

Any suggestions as to what I could replace it with?

I would suggest starting with the safe light specs for the film you use and then finding a gel that matches that spec ?

it is not critical... when films went panchromatic the red colour became ineffective anyway. so any red clear plastic will do.

Bring on the strawberry creme Quality Street wrapper!

OK guys thanks for the help..I'll have a search around to see what if any bits of red see through plastic i can find here at home....here's hoping I don't find some that is attached to something useful....especially if the item belongs to my mrs!!!

How big does it need to be ?

In order to glue it in place to the body, something in the region of 2.5 cm square but naturally as thin as possible....i........Iwas just thinking of possibly cutting up some sort of old gel filter....I don't know how thick they are though never having possessed one.

I've got 11tibillion swatches of gels, big mistake not stopping to look at my junk...lol

If you can decide on what shade of red you want, say in the Lee polycarb or gel range, I'll send you it..:)

edit....or Roscolene/Roscolux, got loads of those too..

looking at em, Lee gel 106 primary red & polycarb HT207 med red look good, the Roscolene ones look a bit light.
This is the first time I've ever looked at them, who's idea was it to invent a colour called....******* Amber..:shake:

LOL I don't think the colour amber was invented.....sort of originates from the colour of fossilized tree resin I think!

Very kind offer on your part John and much appreciated.

Tbh, I wouldn't really know which shade to go for...presumably one of the darkest to keep any light entry to a minimum whilst maintaining the ability to be able to read the numbers on the film backing paper.

I presume you still have my address but i'll pm it to you again just to be sure.

Many thanks!

Its not just Amber, its B*****D Amber..
