ok so recently noticed the lens hood on my sony 300 mm 2.8 lens hood was loose when in place so I was cleaning it today and checked the hood screws were tight only to find one loose and the other missing. so I need a replacement and have no idea of size or where to buy , any help as to size and where to buy thanks gary

Could take one out and see if b&q have a match? Best hurry before the lockdown! :D other than that I don’t know really, must be a fairly standard size, I would imagine Sony get them in huge quantities

@spudhead

AFAIK

Such Japanese electronics will use JIS screws, these are similar to but not exactly identical to Philips type screws.

However, many(all?) such screws of each type will have common characteristics i.e. diameter in millimetres, length in millimetres......have you got access to a micrometer guage to take the measurements? Lastly, what does the screw head look like....perhaps take some pictures of the one that you still (the loose one that you mentioned) to aid identification?

HTH but unless someone at TP has the same lens hood to make the measurement for you, it is pure guesswork without some further input by you :thinking:

hi thanks for replies b+q will not work as the screws are under 1.6 mm in gauge as I also race rc cars and have screw as small as 1.6 mm in gauge and they are all too big, so read on line could be as small as 1.2 mm or even 1mm in gauge so will try ebay etc

If anyone in the family has any far eastern goods / toys they don't need you could have a quick look to see if any screws match and could be recycled your way... or maybe it's worth looking in your local charity shops for anything that looks like it may yield a screw.

Getting in touch with a decent camera repairer may be the easiest way to solving your problem. They should know the size and thread if you take one of those left into the shop with you. I don't know of a repairer who doesn't have a bin full of bits and pieces they can cannibalise for rare spares.
