Replacement part for SB900?

Odd one, but I just dropped my SB900 and it landed on the red plastic cover on the front (technical term? The bit that covers the AF-assist illuminator) which proceeded to smash. It doesn't appear to have broken anything else with it, so I'm super pleased about that, but I'll be needing to replace this cover. Can I buy the part separately and fit it myself, or am I going to have to get Nikon involved?

This year is not a brilliant year for camera kit!
 
Nikon have a spare parts dept. and certainly they will sell you anything thats user replaceable. You'd need to ask them though - give the Service Dept a call on Monday.
 
Yeah, I figured that might be the case. I'm hoping it's not going to be an expensive part, but knowing deep down that I should probably get the vaseline out and do some yogic breathing.

Send them an email with a picture and they will send you a reply with the part number and price. The part does not need to be user replaceable as they have sent me parts that are not. They are quite quick too.

Oh and a TOP TIP......

Always ask for a PC sync and remote cover for your D200. They send them FREE if you are buying anything else :)
 
Awesome, thank you. Just found that contact info, but didn't know about the socket covers - can never have too many of those in the bag!! Thank for that info :)

Thats why I mentioned it. Even if you don't need them now they can be expensive to buy. I like the D700 having a pop on and off cover but still have my D200. I was going to add a couple of covers on when I place my next order because when I sold my D1x to babytiger one of the covers was missing and it still hasn't turned up !
 
Cheers for the help, ordered this morning from a very helpful and polite chap. £14 inc delivery and VAT. Hopefully it is just a clip-in part like it seems to be.

Wonder what I'll smash next. It always seems to be my newest kit :(
