I dropped my said lens from about a foot onto a carpeted floor a wee while back, I was in a position to buy a new vrii version so sent of to a well known high street chain starting with J just had the repair estimate .....£507 this lens has been week cared fit not a mark on it and dropped once from a tiny distance. My new lens was not much dearer brand new lol.

What sort of damage did the lens suffer? Can you claim on your house insurance? You could end up with another new lens or maybe get a quote from Nikon. I am sure Jessops will just send it to Nikon anyway and will add their expenses on top.

Eeek! It's amazing what the bills can be on lens repairs. Any major work rarely makes economical sense in my experience.
 
my theory is because i stupidly told them i dropped it, they see that as a green light to replace everything inside the lens, she rhymed off about 15 parts it needed, my BACK SIDE it needed all them lol
