Does anyone know how to get the lens mount off one of these. All the youtube videos of other Nikon lenses just show removing the 3 or 4 screws in the mount is enough to release it. In this case the mount outer remains firmly attached to the inner section with the aperture lever and electrical contacts. I need to remove the aperture mechanism to clean and free it off.

I have removed all the screws on the mount and those attaching the mount to the black inner section. The mount remains attached to the lens through the electrical connection to the contacts, and cannot be lifted off.

Thanks, but it's the 3.5-4.5, rather than the 2.8

Eh? 28-70 3.5-4.5. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/287035af.htm

The Nikon USA site seems to ave every AF lens except this one. :(

It's the only one I can't find. I reckoned that between the two manuals you may be able to figure out how to do it :)

The 18-70 repair manual shows a fourth screw that needs to be unscrewed.

If it is stuck on you'll probably have to use a wee bit of lighter fluid to 'ungunk' the plate from the main body.

This is quite normal with older lenses I've worked with.

I replaced my 18 to 105mm mount without any problem. Watched the youtube How to replace Bayonet mount on Nikkor 18-105 lens - YouTube

"How to replace Bayonet mount on Nikkor 18-105 lens - YouTube"

I watched the video a few times before and during.

Quite simple and very satisfying.
