Removing background, or amending it's colour... how?

Hi All

I took a few impromptu images this morning at my daughters rugby game, and one of these was of a gorgeous breed of dog I had never seen nor heard of before - a Tibetan Terrier. He was simply gorgeous. However, I now have a few images of him with either grass, a lead, or the owners trousers in the background.

Is there a way in Photoshop to say amend only the grass colour to white? or to remove the entire background altogether so that I can put him on a white background - but keep the detail in the edging of the image...?

There are a few methods you can use. You could clone out the trousers etc.

To change the grass to white you could use the replace colour tool.

However, if I understand you correctly, all you want is the dog against a plain white background?

If so, then use the masking tool to delete the background and change to white.

If you post an image a quick example could be done for you.

Thanks Brains... here's an admittedly poor shot, but gives you the sort of idea I am looking for. I want to remove the grass and have him on a white (or other) coloured background.

There's lots of ways to tackle the job, but where you have a difficult outline involving stray hairs as you do here, it's very difficult to do a good job without losing those stray hairs and ending up with what looks like a cut out pasted in subject. It's entirely possible, but IMHO is one of the most difficult things in post processing to do convincingly and well. ;)
