Yep, you COULD use Ps but it is a bit long winded.

Over on the Giveawayoftheday site there is a brilliant little program being offered today only which does this task a lot easier/quicker than anything else I have seen.

It will struggle with complex BG's (As does PS) but for simple work it is pretty damn good - And free.

Available here.

I have been using them for about two years and no probs

That was the case a long time ago but those issues have been addressed and most of us have Anti-viruses running anyway - Don't we all?

Seems that you cannot save images after working on them, you have to buy the license to enable save, so not really free! Works ok though otherwise!

Yes it is working, you have to run the activate icon to activate it after installing.
Well heres my verdict. It's a sort of content aware fill, it's slower than photoshop but does a fair job, as a freebee if you have an older version of photoshop it might well come in handy.

Thats great to show the comparison.

Not a lot of difference in the two removals.

I tried a couple of removals and, like I said, if the background isn't too complex then it does a very respectable job.

As Swanseamale said, if you follow the instructions it works fine.

You DO indeed get the full licensed version.

Try reading a few more of the posts and you will see that person was wrong.

Here is some Interesting history (And it's connection with Photoshop) from a post from MIKE over on GOTD.

Very Brief Seam Carving History…
Ariel Shamir & Shai Avidan did a research paper on math that could be used for Seam Carving, which is the basis for [seam carving] features in image editing apps & plug-ins that can re-size an image without distorting the relative size & aspect of objects in that image — removing objects from the image is also possible, but as it was not the original goal & doesn’t always work perfectly, it receives less attention. AFAIK the 1st Windows app using it was ReTarget, which was bought by a P/Shop plugin company. You can now find lots of info etc. searching for “seamcarving” — “image retarget” also works, but with less relevant hits. It started with Ariel Shamir http://goo.gl/fkXDu — click the Research button, then Seamcarving. Wikipedia has pages on both Seamcarving & Inpainting: http://goo.gl/NRnI — http://goo.gl/2GMQg . If I remember correctly this was one of the original implementations, finding it’s way into the GIMP [downloads available] http://goo.gl/XKrC — GIMP: http://goo.gl/02xh . The Liquid Rescale GIMP plug-in is here: http://goo.gl/XaCf1 .

actually, on that example, I would come down on the side of the freebie, the PS version has some very obvious repetition, especially near the top of the snowline whereas the freebie looks far more natural both there and roughly where the feet were in the original. However, the actual 'finish' is smoother in the PS version - so on balance, given one is free, the other hugely expensive....

Hmmm, for free its probably worth having anyway, even if you have the latest CS5 with content aware fill, as its another option when not happy with results. That would be my feeling anyway ;)
