Remove hard shadows.

In compositing a photo of an aircraft onto a background scene, the aircraft has hard shadows under the tailplane that are not compatible with the direction of light in the background photo.
How do you remove or dramatically reduce this shadow so that it does not look wrong for the photo. I am using affinity photo, but it uses similar commands to Photoshop.

You can have a go at careful dodging and burning.

However; the key to successful compositing is to match both the perspective and the lighting. It’s almost impossible to fix those later, you’ll have much more success starting with the right images.

Thanks. I agree where possible I should try and match the different parts, but not always possible as my photographs are never produced in a studio . I have had luck using the clone tool along with dodge and burn. I was just wondering if others had better techniques.

Even if you get rid or reduce shadows the light will still clearly appear from the wrong direction. Readjust the images and / or positioning till you get a match.
