I have recently bought a 32ft remote for getting up close to birds ETC, without them seeing me,I would like to Know if anybody has one or used one and what kind of results did you have???????? Thanks Sean
The idea sounds attractive Sean, but in practice it isn't so good.
The problem is you either use manual focus and pre-focus on a particular spot or set up servo autofocus on a particular spot. Due to the way these little birds continually flit and hop about you'll find it extremely frustrating that they're seldom where you want 'em to be, although when you do get a result it tends to be good. Use the smallest aperture you can get away with which gives you a fast enough shutter speed, to give yourself enough DOF which will be very shallow at close distances.
If it was that easy I'd be using this system all the time.
Where it would probably work very well is with a feeder set up where the bird is tied to using a perch to feed and you know where he'll be, but feeder shots never look as good as shots in a more natural setting.
The other thing which tends to work against you in that situation Sean is that the shutter noise from most DSLRs is horrendous enough at a distance, but used that close, every living thing will vamoose with the first shot.
