Has anyone had success of using a built-in/master to trigger a few remote speedlights (for repeating flash) - where one remote has a repeating flash built in, and the others not? Perhaps using optical triggers for the remaining flash?

The repeating flash I have is a Nissin - which supports master/CLS, but not, apparently, in repeating flash more. i.e. I cannot use the Nissin as both a master and repeating flash (trigger). Its a Di866. The other units are SB600, Nissin Di622 (CLS), and Yongnuo 560's. I'm less concerned about being able to control output from the master, than syncing the slaves to strobe.

Hope that makes some kind of sense?

the flashes on 'repeating flash' mode (ie the yonguno 560s) are seeing the short, lower power flashes that CLS uses to communicate settings etc between the camera and the CLS flash. Therefore, they'll fire at the wrong time.

Basically, there isn't an easy or workable way to mix the two systems. If you want to fire them all at the same time, put all of the flashes to 'repeating flash' mode (not available on the SB600) and put the on-camera flash to a lowish power.

OK, I think I'm going to try using the camera master (non-CLS), or even maybe a Yongnuo trigger to trigger the repeating flash (e.g. Di866) - with the latter close to a couple of 560's on manual. I've heard of it being done, but, as they say, YMMV. I'm trying to make it work rather than spending out on more repeating-capable flashes (e.g. SB900, Di866, etc.).

Radio triggers are your best bet :)
