Hi All

Very new around here - has anybody got some good advice for remote flash triggers please. :bonk:

I use Nikon kit and have 2 x SB800 with D200 / D700 & D80 options.

Also good if I can trigger camera remotely with triggers.

Ah - where to buy will also be excellent - thanks.

Bob

Hi Bob,

I have just bought a set of 3 Yonunuo triggers after reading such good reports about them. I ordered them on Thursday and they arrived Friday this week. Nice guy to deal with - Trevor Nelmes - (0)1386 841698 (normally on answerphone ) but came back to me promptly when I had a small query - Contact at at Cotswolde photo via e-Bay - ( ebay@cotswoldphoto.co.uk ). Their web site is also very good and they have lots to offer. Suggest you have a look and good look.

Your cameras D200 /D700 can already remotely fire your SB800's as standard, I use this set up 90% of the time when using flash.

It depends on the distances involved and how you want them to work.

Your D700 can happily trigger your flashes with ETTL but you need good line of sight for them to work as they work on IR (Light beams)

If it's a distance/round corners/through walls job and you are OK metering manually you cannot beat pocketwizards plusIIs.

Thanks all for your help and information.

I use the OCF mainly for motorsport and the combination of distance and panning / getting the angle right for the Nikon CLS to work as master & slave doesn't often work! Hence me looking to remote flash triggers to improve results.

The quality / price issue is always a tough call, I generally err towards quality wherever possible, but this perticular decision may be tempered by the amount they are used, too.

Thanks again for all info and experiences.

Good shooting

Regards

Bob

Remember that CLS allows for both remote control of the flash power from the camera and also TTL metering if you want it.

None of the radio solutions currently offer either of those things. Its manual flash only, with setting set on each flash (walk over, tweak)

CLS is best if you can make it work... but I know and have experienced times when it does not (usually outside in daylight!)

Hi
Yes thanks, I appreciate your comments, but trying to shoot in the dead of night with blazing headlight / spots etc pointing full bore at you, there are few options other than full manual. The sheer power of headlights confuses the automatics of all the cameras my wife & I have owned - D70/D80/D200 & D700. I just need the remote triggers and then remember my work many, many years ago with Leica M3 & big paparatzi style flash.
It's a great shame the Nikon CLS is so fickle for this application.
BTW - nice shots on your web!
Sincere Congrats.

Ahhh yes, I missed the bit where you said about motorsport... definitely wireless is the way forward there, even if having to dash around tweaking the power, its the only way really.

We use wireless flash for MX shots from time to time, however its worth noting that you can quite often need quite a lot of flash units to make up the power you need because of the distances and ambient sunlight.

At night using flash as primary illumination for rally is a different game altogether though! Can't say I've ever tried it yet though...

BTW we use Elinchrome Skyports.

I also got my RF602's from Cotswold, work every time, no misfires, great products.
