Just found some IR remote sets at Asda for £5 !!!

You get one remote control and 3 mains remote sockets. Basically the adapter thing plugs into the mains and your device (light) plugs into the adapter. There are four channels and you can have multiple adapters on the same channel.

EDIT: Just checked and the other set works on a different channel/code so you can program two sets in the same room!

SO I bought 2 sets, one for the studio so I can now remotely turn the hilite, hair light, fan and main light on or off :) (going to use the remote and the remaining 2 adapters in the house).

Worth getting a few sets as they are normally a lot more than £5!

What's the point of remote on/off control?

If I didnt want it, I would not have set the light up.

Variable remote power control is worth every penny.

I can turn off the hilite with one button whilst adjusting the position, power etc of the main/other lights so the hilite does not affect the meter reading. I can remotely turn on/off a fan or my tiny spot light I use for focussing etc etc.

Do you meter for the background and subject separately? If so do you turn off your background lights whilst setting your foreground and vice versa? If so this makes it easier.

Do you have things you want to switch on or off as and when? If so you can use one of these.

It's not a massive thing but for a fiver I think it was worth it for ease

I use these in my gallery for making sure all stuff is turned off when I leave - it can be a couple of days between uses and it's nice to turn everything that's non essential off with one click.

As for using them for studio lights. Well.....here are a bunch of shots from a test shoot with Fabiana.

In the first I have 3 lights on, second I've turned one off and third I've turned a second off. 3 different looks in a minute or two. With remote control from camera position I could bang them out in 20 seconds.

[Those are SOOC - yes of course I'd touch in all the junk ;)]
